Good news for Kaamelott fans the sequel planned by Alexandre

Fans of the series “Kaamelott” are eagerly awaiting the release of the second part in theaters. And good news awaits Alexandre Astier’s admirers.

Since 2005, the universe of Kaamelott, reinterpretation of the Arthurian legend by Alexandre Astier, has established itself as a major French saga. The six seasons broadcast on M6 until 2009 have established themselves as cult television objects, with viewers happily quoting some of the lines (“fat is life” to name just one) and rediscovering the episodes (only a few minutes) each time they are broadcast on television.

In 2021, after the series ended over a decade ago, a new film reuniting the original cast is being released. Titled Kaamelott: first partit also picks up ten years after the events of the end of the series, when Lancelot has taken power and King Arthur is in exile. But he quickly finds himself forced to return to save the kingdom of Logres. Released just after the Covid-19 pandemic and while the situation remained difficult for movie theaters, the feature film will be a commercial success, since the film recorded more than 2.6 million admissions in France and became the most-watched French film of 2021.

But as its name already indicated, this feature film was only the “first part” of a new saga, announced as a trilogy. Enough to provoke the anticipation of fans, impatient to enjoy the return of Kaamelott and the release of the second part. Good news: the Dordogne departmental council revealed this Tuesday at a press conference that filming had indeed begun and that it had taken place in the Périgord, in the greatest confidentiality, during the summer.

And according to information from the Parisian published this Thursday, September 12, Alexandre Astier would not be shooting one, but two films for this “second part”. The cinematic adventure of Kaamelott had always been announced as a trilogy. Now that we know that this second part will be divided into two parts, the question remains whether a “third part”, in the form of a fourth film, would see the light of day soon or not.

Anyway, the release date of Kaamelott: second part is not yet known. In the meantime, you can (re)watch episodes of the series on MyCanal or on television on Paris Première and 6ter. The first film is only available for purchase or rental on VOD platforms.
