Golf: Rory McIlroy withdraws pre-ball divorce with Scottie Scheffler at US Open

Huge favorite to take home the competition is Scheffler, who has won five of his last eight competitions. He is the tournament’s biggest favorite since Tiger Woods in 2009. But he feels no pressure.

– I don’t really feel it and I don’t think much about it, says Scheffler to the PGA Tour.

Scheffler was arrested by police for failing to comply with a summons following a fatal crash before the second round of the PGA Championship nearly a month ago and faced four different felony charges. He has now been freed from this.

– Scheffler’s view that it was a “big misunderstanding” is confirmed by the evidence, said Jefferson County Prosecutor Mike O’Connell according to Fox News.

McIlroy’s private concerns

At the same time, his colleague, McIlroy, has also figured in the papers. For him, it’s about his probationary life.

The divorce papers surrounding wife Erica Stoll had already been submitted to authorities in Florida but are now being withdrawn just before the US Open at Pinehurst in North Carolina.

– There have been rumors about my private life lately, which is unfortunate. It’s futile to try to address all the rumors, but over the past few weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future is to continue being a family, says the 35-year-old to The Guardian.

The world number three has not won a major in ten years.

– As everyone knows, it has taken me quite some time to get my hands on a fifth major title, but I have never been more sure that I am at least as close now as I have ever been before, says McIlroy.
