McIlroy, who went in the same ball as Ludvig Åberg, played fantastic golf and led the competition for a long time during the first day. But he finished the day with three straight bogeys and fell down the leaderboard.
It would be even worse when he is now subsequently punished for the violation on the seventh hole – the same hole where Åberg made a fine eagle.
McIlroy is at one under par, tied for 39th in the tournament. Ludvig Åberg is four under par in a shared eighth place.
