Among alligators in the water obstacles and to beautiful birdsong in the bushes and trees, the 24-year-old from Eslöv continued the RBC Heritage in Harbor Town as he finished the year’s first major on Sunday.
Brilliant and in focus from broadcasting TV companies.
– My focus changed as soon as I got here. We tried to make sure that last week was last week, and this week is about this week, says Åberg, according to the Reuters news agency.
Four under par first nine
Åberg hit the same ball as the Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy – one of his longtime great admirers.
Who spurred who was unclear, but with four and three shots under par through the first nine holes, both got the start they wanted.
Bogey on hole eleven
Åberg offered two birdies and an eagle on the course’s fifth hole, a pair of 5-holes. McIlroy didn’t want to be worse on that hole.
The first setback came on hole 11. Åberg’s bunker shot landed a little far from the flag and the two-putt meant the first bogey of the round and a missed shot.
Tied for fourth after day one
He got that again on the 15th with a masterful second shot that led to a birdie and again four shots under par.
There was another birdie on the 17th and Åberg is tied for fourth after the first round with five other players on 66 strokes, three strokes behind American JT Poston, who leads on 63.
Scheffler: “Felt tired”
Masters winner Scottie Scheffler opened the competition with a 69, two under par.
– It felt like I played much better than the result. But at the same time I tried to be kind to myself today, because I felt tired, says Scheffler, according to the Reuters news agency.
