27-year-old Linnéa Ström started playing on the LPGA tour in 2019. She has a second place finish from last season as her best, but has never won.
But now a victory is close. On Sunday, she went around the third and final round of the Shoprite LPGA Classic in New Jersey in 60 strokes, eleven under par.
“Had a good feeling²
It is the second-best result of all time on the LPGA Tour. The only one who has made a better round is Annika Sörenstam, who in 2001 had a round of 59 strokes.
– I was home in Sweden last week, and going home always gives me confidence by spending time with friends and family. So I had a good feeling going into this week, and felt like I played okay the first two rounds, says Ström to NBC Sports, and continues:
– And then today, everything finally clicked. I sunk some putts and hit some good shots.
– I am very satisfied with my round.
Struck an eagle
Ström did not have a single bogey on the round. She hit an eagle and nine birdies.
Ström was in 52nd place when the round began, but is now in the lead by two strokes. However, those who had the best positions after Saturday have many holes left to play.
