Puerto Rican Juan Rodriguez passed away at the age of 88.

Eight-time winner of the world’s most prestigious and high-level golf tour, the PGA Tour Juan Rodriguez has passed away at the age of 88. The PGA Tour reported the sad news on their website.

Elected to the Golf Hall of Fame in 1992, the Puerto Rican made his PGA Tour debut in 1960.

During his 21-year career, he won the Ryder Cup once in 1973 with the US team.

Outside of golf, Rodriguez was known for his tireless philanthropy. Nicknamed “Chi Chi,” the golf legend ran the Rodriguez Youth Foundation in Clearwater, Florida, which helped at-risk youth achieve academic, social and financial success.

– A man is never higher than when he stops to help a child, Rodriguez said in his autobiography.
