Golf: Course record by two strokes at Pebble Beach by Wyndham Clark: ‘Feels unreal’

– We tried to play aggressively, get good shots, and see what that could lead to but 60 is pretty amazing. To be completely honest, I didn’t see the leaderboard until the last hole, said Clark, who won the US Open last year, on Eurosport’s broadcast.

During the mobile interview, the commentators whispered so as not to disturb the players, while Ludvig Åberg was shown in a picture. He was the closest chasing Clark, who took the lead by 17 when he arrived at the clubhouse and posed with the scoreboard in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He went out 23rd in the third round.

“It feels surreal”

– I could never have imagined this and it feels unreal, but I got into the zone and just focused on golf. It was so cool and I love this place, always have loved it, said Clark who had two eagles the first six holes where the putter was red hot.

Before Clark’s effort, four players shared the record 62 strokes. At the final hole, where hundreds of spectators flocked with cell phones at full blast, Clark putt for eagle from 7-8 meters to reach a magical 59 strokes. He missed by about a decimetre but made a rock-solid birdie.

The course costs SEK 6,300 to play

– At that putt I got nervous for the first time in a long time and of course it would have been fun to get a 59, but I’m still happy to knock in a birdie for 60 strokes, says Clark.

Even on holes 16 and 17, Clark had putts that stopped right at the edge of the hole and the ball stared down at an even lower score than the 12 that today’s round produced.

If you get the urge to play on the court and surprisingly get hold of a free seat, a round costs SEK 6,300.

Pebble Beach was dedicated in 1919.
