Golf: Annika Sörenstam ratas from Scandinavian Mixed: “Wanted to join”

This year’s Scandinavian Mixed will be decided at Vasatorps Golfklubb outside Helsingborg June 6-9. When the competition was decided for the first time in 2021 at Vallda outside Kungsbacka, Sörenstam and Henrik Stenson hosted the competition. After Stenson jumped on the Saudi-financed LIV tour, Sörenstam has remained as the only frontman.

But now that’s over.

– It will continue, but I will not be involved. It’s a shame. I wanted to join but they decided it wasn’t suitable anymore for some reason, so I don’t know, says Sörenstam to Expressen.

“Didn’t belong anywhere”

For Expressen, the organizer DP World Tour tells that after three years with hosts, they must now move on with a focus on today’s active golfers – and on the tournament’s sustainability initiatives.

– My contract expired. It’s pretty much a DP World competition (gentlemen) and then having a girl as a representative made them think they might not know who to put in as host. Then they dropped that type of marketing and will only run on the players. So then I didn’t belong anywhere, says Sörenstam and adds:

– But I wanted to be involved. I can say that.

The program for the summer is now focused on the Olympics in Paris, where Sörenstam is chairman of the international golf association and the European edition of the Annika Invitational, which will be played at Isabergs GK outside Gnosjö in Småland.
