After a heavier Friday, Åberg was back on top again in the PGA tour competition The Players on Saturday. After a bogey on the first hole, the Swedish golf star rose considerably and lined up several birdies.
First on hole two where Åberg, from a difficult position, managed a perfect approach on his second shot on the par five hole. He was then only centimeters away from making an eagle (two strokes under par) – but had to settle for birdie (one under).
The 24-year-old then played fine golf on several holes and climbed the leaderboard.
Åberg ended Saturday’s round at 67 – a total of five shots under par – after finishing with a bogey.
– Right after the round, it’s a bit sad that I finish with a bogey. But absolutely, all in all, I’m super happy with the day. I played well and gave myself chances all the time, which is important on this course. It’s nice to get up a little on the leaderboard so that you have a reasonable chance tomorrow in any case, he tells Discovery+.
With today’s results, Åberg climbs 15 places to a shared twelfth place and is a total of nine under par before Sunday’s final round.
In the absolute top, it is an even race between the Americans Brian Harman (-15), Wyndham Clark (-16) and Xander Schauffele (-17) who lead the competition.
