Golf: 15-year-old Asterisk Talley makes sensation in US Open: “Always dreamed of this”

Talley has shot rounds of 70 and 71 and is tied for fifth at +1 with seven other players in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

When Lydia Ko was 18 years old, she won the Evian Championship in 2015, becoming the youngest ever major winner on the women’s side. Talley is five strokes up on leading Thai Wichanee Meechai.

– It is fantastic. I’ve always dreamed of this. Being a part of it is so different for me but I feel like I belong here and I’m good enough to compete. My goal was to at least reach the qualifying limit, says Talley.

“The brain stopped working”

Leader Meechai, 31, is ranked 158th in the world and has never won an event in the United States.

– To be completely honest, I was so nervous. I told my trainer that my hands were shaking and my brain stopped working. I knew the track would be tough and just tried to have fun, Meechai said according to Reuters.
