Carolina Klüft is one of our biggest Swedish sports heroes.
But what few don’t know about her sports interest is her favorite team.
Because there she betrays her own hometown of Växjö – for a direct rival.
In the early 2000s, a young man struck Carolina Klüft made a big splash in the sports world and quickly gained a warm place in the Swedish public’s soul. But with her big winning skull and lovely personality, she quickly became a favorite throughout our long country.
Klüft’s career
As early as 2000, the big breakthrough came with JVM gold in the heptathlon, and then the success story for the Swede from Växjö only continued. In 2001, she won double SC gold in both heptathlon and long jump, and then it was time to conquer the world.

Already at the age of 22, she became the youngest athlete in history to win all five international gold medals in the Olympics, WC indoor and WC outdoor as well as EC indoor and EC outdoor. In total, it was an incredible 1 Olympic gold, 4 WC gold, 4 EC gold and a whopping 17 SM gold during the fantastic career.

The giant record
Carolina Klüft still holds the hard-to-beat European record of 7,032 points in heptathlon. But already in 2008, she chose to end her career as a heptathlete and instead switch to long jumping full-time.

The Swede then chose to end her career entirely in the summer of 2012. Since then, we have seen her as a celebrated presenter in both the Summer and Winter Olympics for Viasat, as well as an expert commentator for SVT during several athletics competitions.

Favorite team
Recently, the golden hero appeared again in the television box when she had the chance to present an award at the “Tidernas Hockeygala” in the Avicii Arena. On stage, she was to read out the nominations for “Team of the Times” and then took the opportunity to reveal her own favorite team in sports.
But as born and raised in Växjö, she betrayed her hometown and admitted that her heart beats for a completely different team from a completely different city. Namely, a direct rival to the hockey team Växjö Lakers in the SHL.
– When I grew up in Växjö, there was no team to stick to… So the answer is of course HV71!, Klüft said at the hockey gala and was met with applause and some laughter.
