Norrköping Dolphins led 3–1 in games before the meeting in Borås and had a first chance to secure the club’s third straight SC title.
The trophy was in the hall, but a golden celebration was never even close.
Borås set full speed from the start, while Norrköping appeared lost and without sharpness. 17–6 after just over six minutes forced the visitors to a timeout, but the rout continued the period.
After ten minutes, Borås led 27-9, in a situation where the so far 100% American Chris McKnight had scored twelve points.
The overrun ended then, but home series winner Borås had full control of the rest of the match. When Norrköping finally managed to shrink the deficit to nine points, it was far too late, not even a minute remained to play.
“It’s sad, but it’s important to forget this one as soon as possible,” says Norrköping’s Nick Spiers to SVT after the loss.
Borås won 83–71, McKnight was the top scorer (22) and Norrköping has to lick its wounds before the sixth final, which will be decided at home on Monday.
Then the team gets a new opportunity to put an end to the SM final series.
