Traffic jams are known to be extremely annoying for all road users. While some are relatively short, others extend over long distances and on particularly congested roads, so that when you are in them, you know that it will be for a long time. Being stuck in the car is no fun for anyone, and it can be even more complicated for pregnant women, but also for young children. During the holiday periods, many people therefore check the forecasts smart one to know when to leave to have as few people as possible on the road.

Some are even more forward-looking and choose their holiday dates based on the indications of the French organization. Indeed, at the beginning of each year, Bison Futé reveals a calendar with its forecasts for the next twelve months. Although they can be specified as the exact dates approach, this tool is nevertheless a good indicator of dates to avoid going on holiday. The indications are given by color: green corresponds to normal traffic, orange to difficult traffic, red to very difficult traffic and black to extremely difficult traffic.

If you are planning to go away this summer, you should know that two dates appear in black in the direction of departures on the Bison Futé calendar: Saturday, July 27 and Saturday, August 3, 2024. These dates correspond to the last Saturday of July and the first of August, which are associated with the famous coming and going of July and August vacationers. It is therefore no surprise that July 27 is also in black in the direction of returns. Friday, July 5 and Saturday, July 6, which mark the start of the school holidays, are in red, in the direction of departures. Regarding vacation returns, Saturday, August 17 oscillates between red and black.

This year being a bit special, as France is hosting the 2024 edition of the Olympic and Paralympic Games which will take place partly during the school holidays, Bison Futé has included this parameter in its forecasts. Thus, it notes a risk of traffic disruption in Île-de-France and around the major cities hosting events from Friday July 26 to Sunday August 11, the dates between which the Olympic Games will take place, then from Wednesday August 28 to Sunday September 8, the period corresponding to the Paralympic Games.
