In Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO on Steam) there is a lot of buzz around in-game skins. With the announcement of CS2, where you can continue to use the skins, the prices rise. A Danish collector is benefiting from this hype right now. The 28-year-old handles the big deals.
What’s the deal with skins in the steam shooter? In CS:GO there are cosmetic skins that change the look of weapons. There are many players, but in CS:GO they are something special, an economic factor:
First Free2Play, then CS2 – Counterstrike is booming on Steam and Twitch
Why is this booming right now? CS:GO has been skyrocketing on Steam for 3 years when Valve made the game Free2Play. Since then, CS:GO has regularly broken player count records. Also, because CS:GO is one of Valve’s “house games”, CS:GO like DOTA 2 or Team Fortress 2 on Steam has a home advantage and is consistently the biggest or one of the biggest games here.
In addition, due to a general lack of new games and a strong e-sports scene, CS:GO has been a fixture on Twitch for years and is constantly growing.
Valve also announced in 2023 that they would bring a big update for CS:GO with “CS2”.
The special feature: All skins from CS:GO will still work in the new version. This has given the skin market a boost.
Danish collector makes the big deals
Who is cashing in? There is a Danish skin dealer on Twitter who goes by the name “zipeL”. He says on Twitter he has an economics degree that he’s wasting and buys and sells skins in CS:GO, co-founding two sites of his own.
The man says he sold 2 items for a total of more than $500,000 in a first auction. As he says, it was the second largest trade in CS:GO history.
First, he sold a special AK-47 carrying 4 holographic stickers from the 2014 Katowice ESL Major tournament by Team Titans, further increasing the value. As 3DJuegos knows, the stickers are especially valuable because Team Titan only competed in that tournament in 2014 and disbanded due to cheat allegations.
The dealer also sold the “Karambit P1 #387 well-worn” knife.
According to his own statements, he took in more than $500,000 for both items. He made the deal on behalf of “Luksusbums.”
New auction is already at $210,000 and is sure to raise even more money
What is he planning now? The dealer has on 19.4. started another auction. This time he’s selling the m4A4 Howl weapon – it’s one of the rarest skins in CS:GO due to a copyright lawsuit. Therefore, there is only a limited supply for the weapon.
This skin also carries 4 holographic stickers from “iBUYPOWER Katowice 2014” – according to 3DJuegos they are the most valuable stickers in the player. Each of the stickers is trading for up to $67,000.
This skin has already received bids of $210,000 and could still go up.
So apparently it’s a very good time to be a full inventory CS:GO skin collector.
Hopefully people will have more joy with their wealth gained through CS:GO than this man:
