Sporting is through to the quarter-finals of the domestic cup Taça de Portugal. Much thanks to Sweden’s most dangerous player at the moment.
Striker Viktor Gyökeres first headed in 3–0 at the end of the first half against Tondela, header from Nuno Santo’s cross. Then he added directly after the half-time break where the Swede took advantage of carelessness and was in the right place at the right time.
Gyökeres was then replaced after just under an hour of play in the round of 16, which Sporting won 4–0. The quarter-finals, which have not yet been drawn, will be decided in February.
Tonight’s two cup goals now mean that Gyökeres has 18 goals and ten assists (league, cup and Europa League) in 22 games in his debut season for Sporting. Which leads the league in Portugal with Gyökeres as the second scoring league, and Sporting is also through to the playoffs in the Europa League.
