Australian police are searching for a man who poured hot coffee over a nine-month-old baby.

The baby suffered serious burns when the man attacked without warning.

The boy and his mother were having a picnic in a park in Brisbane when an unknown man suddenly attacked. The baby suffered severe injuries when large parts of his body were scalded.

The suspect could be identified through surveillance images, but managed to flee the country before the police could act. Queensland police officer Paul Dalton has called the incident on August 28 the most cowardly crime he has seen in his long career, writes AFP.

– We will continue until we find you, Dalton says of the perpetrator, whose motive remains unclear.

The attacked baby has had to undergo multiple surgeries for her burns and will likely need further skin grafts.

To Australian ABC News, the mother says that since the incident she has been living with constant fear, anxiety, panic attacks and stress.
