As Glenn was moved to tears by the audience’s standing ovation.

It was an incredibly memorable evening in Bergamo on Thursday. On the pitch, Atalanta put in a heroic effort against Liverpool in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals.

Atalanta’s feat

After a slightly sensational 3-0 to the Italians at Anfield, they managed to hold out and only lose 1-0 at home at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia on Thursday evening. A historic achievement for Atalanta who are now ready for the semi-finals of the Europa League for the very first time.

It was also a truly memorable evening for the club icon Glenn Stromberg. The Gothenburg native played a total of 219 games for Atalanta between 1984 and 1992 and really took the club and the city to his heart.

Strömberg’s tears

Strömberg has lived in Bergamo since then and on Thursday evening he had to comment on a match in his hometown for the first time in his life. When he and the pair horse Henrik Strömblad took care of the match in Viaplay.

During the evening, Glenn also stepped out onto the grass to receive the supporters’ great love. The Italians paid tribute to their club icon with a standing ovation in an incredibly beautiful gesture and the Swede was moved to tears, see the emotional video below.
