There are two clubs you associate Glenn Hysén with.
IFK Gothenburg is one and English Liverpool the other.
But now it is revealed that Hysén’s favorite team in England is actually a different team.
Nowadays you see mostly Glenn Hysen like a funny old man from Gothenburg who makes cheeky puns. But once upon a time he was one of the world’s best central defenders in football.
Hysén has written Swedish football history in many different ways. He became the very first to get six wasps(!) in Expressen and he was one of the heroes who won the Uefa Cup with IFK Göteborg.

In 1989 he signed for the English big club Liverpool and classic Anfield became his new home ground. Shortly afterwards, Glenn Hysén became the very first Swede to play the popular TV show “Tipsextra”.
“His Liverpool defeated Manchester City 4-1 away and thundered on to the league title in Glenn’s first season in the classic team. The year was 1989 and the following spring Glenn became the first Swede to win the English league,” the authors write Daniel Björklund and David Stark in the newly released book “1X2 – The ironing tip and the journey towards 13 rights” (Pug Publishers).
Unknown favorite team
Glenn was only ten years old when Tipsextra began to be shown on Swedish television and he already fell in love with English football.
“The whole thing with the English league, with Tip extra and all that, is that no bastard lies down and whines and films. It’s real moves and it’s heart when they play. That’s what the whole English football culture is, for me anyway. The mentality that is there,” says Hysén in the new book about Stryktipset.

To this day, Hysén holds Liverpool close to his heart and it is his favorite team along with IFK Göteborg. But what many do not know is that the Swedish legend actually had a completely different heart condition as a child.
Glenn stayed at Chelsea from the beginning, it was after a school trip to London.
“Unclear if he told that to the icon Kenny Dalglish, who is one of the reasons for Liverpool’s strong foothold in Sweden and the one who recruited Glenn to the club. In fierce competition with Manchester United”, write Björklund and Stark in “1X2 – The ironing tip and the journey towards 13 right”.
