The birth rate in Borgholm has never been lower in the 21st century than it is now. Last year was born only 51 children. But the municipality’s politicians hope that a new proposal will reverse the trend.
From next year, a gift card of SEK 2,500 will be distributed to every newborn child in the municipality.

But how do you make sure that the children stay, they may be raised there and then leave?
– I do not believe that. We know that we are an attractive municipality with attractive housing, we have schools, care and welfare with fantastic quality in our operations.
The gift card can be used in any store in Borgholm. And if you want to maximize the winnings, just get twins – because then it will double.
