Gitanas Nauseda was re elected president of Lithuania

Since no candidate received more than 50 percent of the votes in the presidential elections held in Lithuania on May 12, the second round of voting started at 07:00 local time and ended at 20:00. While more than 50 percent of the ballot boxes were opened, Gitanas Naused, who received 83.75 percent of the votes according to unofficial results, was re-elected as president.

Nauseda’s opponent, Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte, received 14.83 percent of the votes. Accepting the defeat, Simonyte congratulated Nauseda, who will rule Lithuania for the second time for 5 years.

Among the priorities of Nauseda’s second term program was the expansion of the comprehensive support system for families. Nauseda argued that support for families should not consist solely of benefits but should be based on elements of affordable housing policy and labor market regulations.
