Four categories • The mother: “I hardly dare to release my daughter to school”
At the end of last week, the list began to spread among the students. According to information to VK, it must have been written by a couple of high school guys during lesson time.
In addition to names of girls in eighth and ninth grade, several female teachers were included in the list, as well as a couple of male. The male teachers were ranked as “ugly” – the others according to four categories.
The girls, and the female teachers, were either referred to as “Cute”, “Smash”, “Rapeable” or “Unrapeable”. It can be translated into cute, someone you want sex with, someone who is deemed to be conceivable to rape and someone who is not.
The headmaster: “We regret”
Girls at the school must have reacted strongly to the list, according to VK’s information. Now it is believed to be destroyed.
The headmaster of the school states that an investigation into what has happened and that they work to support students and staff who are affected.
“We regret this type of behavior, which goes against the work we do with the students about questions about respect. It is commendable that students contacted the school management to inform us about the list, ”writes the headmaster in an email to the newspaper.
Since the school management itself has not seen the list itself, they cannot currently answer whether it is relevant to report it or not. Since they have not seen the names themselves, they have also not been able to contact guardians of affected girls.
A mother, whose daughter was on the list in the category of girls “possible to rape” has reacted strongly to the school not hearing from her.
– I hardly dare to release my daughter to school now, who should be a safe environment. You do not know what this is for guys, if they intend to graze on this list, she tells VK.
Similar cases in Australia
The words “Rapeable” and “Unrapeable” have been used in other places in the world. In Australia, two students were relegated last year when they made a similar list as the one in Umeå.
On the Australian list, terms such as “cuties” and “Wifeys” were used to describe female students, as well as the term “unrapeable”, reports ABC News Breakfast.
It is possible that the teenage boys in Umeå have been inspired by the event in Melbourne or by other cases on social media.
“It’s a shame that the students have been inspired by viral events. We are a mobile -free school, it has previously been helpful because viral events have not reached the school, ”writes the school’s principal to VK.
“Everyone has the right to be treated with respect”
TV4 News has been in contact with Umeå Municipality’s school district manager, who writes that the incident should have occurred with another school principal who conducts school activities in the municipality.
When asked how to work in Umeå municipality to counteract that this should happen, Karin Thysell answers: replies:
“As the principal of the municipal elementary schools, we ensure that within the framework of each special activity, a targeted work is conducted to counteract abusive treatment. This means that measures must be implemented to prevent and prevent children and students from being subjected to abusive treatment. In the prevention and promotion work at schools, value -based issues are constantly present. At the principal level, the work of the schools is followed up annually ”
“All children and students have the right to learn and develop in a safe environment and to be treated with respect,” Karin Thysell writes further.
