Several mistakes caused the death of a ten-year-old girl at Norra Älvsborg county hospital in Trollhättan last spring. This is shown by the hospital’s own investigation, reports P4 West.
– We have made mistakes in the care of the child, it is quite obvious, says chief physician Jesper Swärd to the radio.
The girl, who suffered from hypofunction of the pituitary gland which caused a hormone deficiency, was admitted urgently to the children’s clinic. As her condition worsened, emergency measures were instituted, but her life could not be saved.
According to the investigation, important samples were not taken while relevant drugs were not given, nor were ICU staff contacted during the time the girl’s condition was deteriorating.
– These are pure mistakes and lack of routines, in combination, says Swärd to P4.
– This is deplorable, every parent’s nightmare.
The hospital has reported the incident according to lex Maria and established new procedures.
