Girl died – damages case in court this autumn

The girl died in a family home in 2012 after a short illness. In March this year, Lund’s district court acquitted the foster home parents of suspicion of murder or aggravated manslaughter, a verdict that was appealed to the Court of Appeal.

At the same time, a compensation case is ongoing with the municipality of Simrishamn, which had the authority responsibility for the girl’s care.

In September 2013, the municipality was criticized by the National Board of Health and Welfare for shortcomings in its supervision, something with which the municipality partially agreed.

The claim for damages is mainly motivated by these shortcomings, and the mental suffering the parents were exposed to.

Their lawyer, Monica Crusner, tells the radio that no money can replace the loss of the daughter, but that there is also a preventive thought behind the process.

— It should discourage others from being careless or making mistakes that lead to situations like this. Then there will also be some form of compensation when you still receive compensation as a parent, says Crusner.

Trial in Ystad district court is scheduled for the end of September. The municipality has declined to comment on the case.
