Gigantic Hindu festival started in North India

The Maha Kumbh Mela is held every twelve years and began on Monday. People from all over India have made pilgrimages to the area to engage in a series of spiritual rituals, the most central of which is bathing in the rivers that are said to cleanse from sin and bring spiritual liberation.

– We have all come here to bathe so that our souls can find peace. We have been given the opportunity to bathe in the Ganges because we have done good in a previous life, says pilgrim Ram Prakash.
