The Colorado Avalanche has connected a super grip on the conference final.
But after the win in match two, most people talk about something completely different.
Namely a main tackle from the Swedish star Gabriel Landeskog – who now risks suspension.
The conference final between the Colorado Avalanche and the Edmonton Oilers has not been as even as many had thought in advance. Despite the Oilers scoring an insane six goals in the first game, it was a loss when they conceded eight, and even last night it was a win for Colorado at home.
Forced to leave
Avalanche made a huge jerk in the second period, when they smashed in three goals in 124 seconds. Colorado had to play with reserve goalkeeper Pavel Francouz, but he made the match of his life and zeroed in on Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl himself. The match ended 4-0 – and Colorado is now just two games away from the Stanley Cup final.
But not everything is peace and joy in the rocky mountains. During the match, Edmonton forward Kailer Yamamoto had the puck, and just when he went into the offensive zone, Gabriel Landeskog came from the side and slammed on with a tackle that according to the replay pictures seemed to hit his head.
Yamamoto could not play anymore after the bang.
Great criticism
However, the referee was unimpressed, and booked him for diving. Leon Draisaitl chose to hand out a slashing on the Swede in revenge – and in turn was expelled instead. Just 30 seconds later, Edmonton also received – doubtfully according to many – another expulsion.
But many are now of the firm opinion that Landeskog really should have received a real expulsion for the tackle, and it is not impossible that he will be suspended afterwards.
– The player is in a vulnerable position. The tackle comes from the side and the first contact is in the head. But it’s not my decision, I’m not a referee but my job is to coach the team. “I’m sure the right people will review it,” Edmonton coach Jay Woodcroft said afterwards.
On social media, it seems unanimous that Landeskog should have been expelled for the situation, and it will now be exciting – and not least important for Avalanche – to see whether he is actually suspended.
“He does not even have control of the puck. How can it not even be an interference? ”, Writes a user.
“It simply came to our notice then. Terrible verdict “, writes another.
