The story of Ghostrunner 2 continues from where the first game ended, and there is even a brief summary for those who have not played the first game or have forgotten it. Jack (our main character), who struggles with a new group that emerged after the defeat of the Keymaster, the tyrant of the city, fights for the future of humanity.

Ghostrunner 2, which does a better job than the first game in terms of both story and presentation, managed to satisfy me. I ignored the story in the first game by saying “wait, let me skip this part and see you later”. This time, a similar thought comes to my mind again, but this time we have more time to follow the story. The conversations that took place within the episode and the interactions we had with the characters in the areas that served as HUBs between episodes were very effective.

The story is good enough to hook you into the game and give you meaning to what you do. A magnificent world has been created, I cannot say that it draws us in, but I am satisfied with both our communication with the characters we encounter and the story I experienced. I don’t feel like I’m trying to pass the same track over and over in vain.

The story of Ghostrunner 2 is pretty good, but the part we’ve all been waiting for is the gameplay! Let’s see what changes have occurred in the 3.5 years since the first game and how much the gameplay has improved.

First of all, we say that the main fundamentals of the game are still the same, the one who strikes first wins. Both you and most opponents have one-hit health. While you move quickly and finish off the enemies, you also need to defend yourself against those who shoot. In detailed levels, we try different approaches to finish off the enemies and try to be the last one standing.

This system was also in Ghostrunner, you may wonder if they brought the same one, but Jack also has new abilities. For example, we can now stop and bounce attacks, dash more quickly, and use the equipment we have more effectively. The “block” feature that we use to stop enemy attacks is a very powerful ability, but we cannot use it constantly because it drains the stamina bar quite quickly. However, when you use it at the right time, it has good features such as fending off enemy attacks, creating an opening or sending the bullet back.

The ninja stars (shuriken) we had in the first game have been included in the game in a more useful way this time. The stars we now carry with us all the time are powerful enough to neutralize normal enemies and stun strong enemies. This time, instead of a limited number, we can use different types of stars after a certain waiting period. Thanks to these stars, we can take different actions, such as turning some enemies into points we can hold on to.

Jack also gained some new features. For example, it can create a copy of itself and draw attention to it, becoming invisible or performing laser attacks for a while. You better understand the value of such extra features in places where you normally die all the time.

The skill development system has been made better and simpler in this game. The improvements in the game are unlocked as the level progresses, and in order to use them, you need to open extra skill slots with the memory cards you can find in the levels. While you can improve the character’s shuriken abilities and play as a longer-range ninja, you can improve the sword and be more effective in close combat. There are also some useful additional features, such as locating enemies.

While you can easily find some of the memory cards required for development, you need to research more carefully for some. I already like making discoveries within the levels, and it is pleasing that these discoveries are rewarded properly. Moreover, we can find not only improvements but also different weapon and glove looks.

When I first saw the trailers for the game, I thought “Motorcycle!” Then I thought about the nature of the game and thought, “This could be scarier.” After a few missions in the game, you get on your motorcycle and hit the road. The best part is that riding a motorcycle is quite fun. The gameplay is as fast and fluid as when running, and our engine can also move on walls to a certain extent. The action on the engine was also something else. You shoot left and right, jump off the engine, kill the opponents and continue driving the engine again with the help of the hook, your sword is still in your hand. They managed to convey the vehicle action very well. Of course, you die a lot while doing these. I died, I mean, I died so many times that I had to take a break from the game a couple of times.

Modes that add a roguelike-like atmosphere, added with the PlayStation 5 version of Ghostrunner, are also available in this game. We also earn extra cosmetic gifts in the mode where we develop our character by completing challenges consisting of random levels without dealing with the story.

Ghostrunner looks great visually and is as good as the previous game in terms of performance. The graphics look great, the gameplay is smooth, the music is great, the story is good enough. There are many things I can praise about this game, but it is not a game that everyone will enjoy playing.

This game is hard, it is really hard, but it is not a Souls-like challenge that you can solve with different character developments, but it is hard enough to require hand-eye coordination, good reflexes and learning the levels by trial and error. Moreover, if you want to increase this difficulty even more, you can play with the controller and get extra angry. After trying many times with the controller, I decided that I could not play this game with real pleasure on the console, which I passed in 2-3 tries in the demo that I tried with the keyboard and mouse. It may not be a problem for console masters, but I suffered a lot.
