“Ghost in the device” appears, then immediately disappears again – what happens next?

In Pokémon GO, trainers are currently puzzling over the new research “Ghost in the Device”. It was only there for a short time, but it looks like there will be bonuses soon.

What is the “Ghost in the Device” in Pokémon GO? Some trainers briefly found new special research in the game. It’s called the “ghost in the device” and only involved a single step.

It read: “Catch me if you can,” with a small text emoji behind it. The reward was 30 candies for a Pokémon that can only be seen in silhouette. In addition, the reward was:

  • 479 Stardust
  • 479 XP
  • Pokémon encounter
  • In addition, a portion of a code was shown below, the first four digits of which are “0HY0.” The rest is still hidden.

Several trainers shared images of the research on social media, including in the Pokémon GO subreddit “TheSilphRoad”:

But now the research has disappeared again. It is unclear whether the research was intended as a teaser or whether it was an accidentally premature publication. However, there is already a relatively clear direction as to how research could continue.

When can you complete Catch Me If You Can?

Which Pokémon is this actually about? If you look at the silhouette of the monster, it becomes clear relatively quickly that it is Rotom. This also matches the XP and Stardust, as it has the Pokédex number 479.

You could already get Rotom in Pokémon GO, but only on special occasions and very rarely.

How is the research going? Things should continue on the weekend, February 17th and 18th. The local version of the Sinnoh tour takes place in Los Angeles. And one of the gameplay features is called “A Paranormal Puzzle”.

Trainers in Los Angeles are supposed to work together to uncover a secret code that will lead to a Rotom encounter. Once trainers have broken down the code, players around the world should be able to redeem it.

So: keep your eyes open this weekend. There should be the code with which you can get Rotom. As soon as it is known, we will of course keep you updated here.

In general, the Sinnoh tour is getting closer and closer, even in the global version. But that’s not the only exciting event this month: you can find all events in Pokémon GO in February 2024 here.
