For Night of the Hunted, director Franck Khalfoun and producer Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) teamed up again after their Maniac remake and had previously worked together on the disturbing horror classic High Tension. Last year the result was another exciting shocker that… of insidious violence against helpless victims.

That’s what Night of the Hunted is about
Alice (Camille Rowe) works as a social media representative for a pharmaceutical company and is driving with her colleague John (Jeremy Scippio) when they stop at a gas station. When paying at the checkout, Alice only finds a blood-smeared shelf with an apparent message. As she tries to leave the store, worried suddenly shot at them from an unknown direction.
With a wound in her arm, Alice barely manages to seek shelter in the shop, but every time she leaves cover, more shots are fired. The unknown shooter contacts her via a nearby walkie-talkie and the distraught Alice tries to find out. why he wants to kill her and how she can escape from this situation…
The film is a remake of the also rather unknown La noche del ratón (via IMDb, The Night of the Rat) from Spain and, like the original by David R. Losada, which was released in 2015, received rather mixed reviews from the trade press and viewers (via Rotten tomatoes).
The Moviepilot community gives The Night of the Hunted an average of 5.9 out of 10 points. But genre fans should still get their money’s worth and witnesses a bloody and nerve-wracking battle for survival whose limited collector’s edition looks good on the home shelf.
