Having a mobile BankID makes everyday life enormously easier for a large part of Sweden’s population. In 2023, it was estimated that 99.4 percent of Swedes registered in the country between the ages of 18 and 67 had a BankID on some form of device. During the same year, 7.1 billion identifications and signatures were also carried out with the service.
In other words, it has become a vital part when it comes to managing private matters and managing one’s finances.

It is required to have a mobile BankID
Having BankID in the mobile phone is perhaps one of the more common ways to use the service. But the fact is that there is one thing that is required for you to even be able to have a mobile BankID. So even if you need to get a new one.
In those cases, it depends on whether your phone has an NFC circuit, Near Field Communication or near field communication. It enables you to, for example, blip the phone during payments, but is also a requirement to be able to install BankID.
But don’t despair, it’s possible to get around and still download BankID to your device, even if you don’t have NFC.

If you have an Android phone, you can find the NFC settings and also see if the phone supports NFC under “Connections” in your phone’s settings.
If you instead have an iPhone, you can either go into “Wallet” or “Apple Pay” in the phone’s settings and see if the phone supports NFC.
According to Apple, the NFC function is limited to phones from iPhone 7 and newer. This means that if you have an older phone than that, it lacks an NFC reader and thus you need help if you need to get a new mobile BankID.

Which rules apply to have the function is decided by the bank where each individual bank issues the mobile BankID, and thus can set its own requirements.
Should your phone lack the NFC chip, you can however contact your bank for help in activating the service. It is then only when you need to check the ID document in the app that the NFC circuit is required, which the bank can assist you with instead.
