The service was already launched in 2003, but it took until April 14, 2010 before it was launched for Swedish users.
In 2023 alone, 8.5 million users used BankID and over 7,000 companies. In addition, a breathtaking 7.1 billion identifications and signatures were made during the twelve months.

From time to time it happens that you need to update your BankID. It is also not uncommon for you to need to obtain a new BankID if you purchase a new phone or tablet. But there are some important things you should keep in mind, especially when you are going to get a new BankID on your new device.

The mistake you should avoid when getting a new BankID
In the event that you delete your BankID on the old device before you have time to activate the new one on your new device, this may result in you being stranded without a BankID.
– Do not delete your BankID on your old mobile when you get a new one. For security reasons, it is not possible to copy your BankID to the new phone, but you need to activate a new one in your bank’s app or internet bank. You can use your BankID on the old phone to activate the new one. Go to your bank’s website and follow the instructions, explains Röstlund.
Then you might be wondering what to do in the event that you accidentally delete the service before activating it on the new device? According to Malina Röstlund, you should contact the bank for help. It is always the bank that issues the BankID and for your safety a basic identification always needs to take place, either digitally or via, for example, a check of an ID document or on site at an office.
– If you do not have an active BankID, you need to contact your bank to get instructions on how to proceed. Different banks have different solutions to confirm that you are you.
