Germany Zew index improves in June to 85 points

(Finance) – Improve theGerman ZEW index as of June 2023albeit remaining negative: the leading index in fact went to -8.5 points from -10.7 points in May.

The data, elaborated by the German research institute ZEW Institute, is better than the expectations of the analysts who estimated a deterioration to -13.1 points.

On the other hand, expectations on the current conditions which go down to -56.5 points from -34.8 points, against expectations for a level of -40 points.

“The ZEW indicator of economic sentiment shows a slight improvement, but remains in negative territory – comments the president Achim Wambach – This means that experts do not expect an improvement in the economic situation during the second half of the year. In particular, export-focused sectors are likely to underperform due to a weak global economy. However, the current recession is generally not considered particularly alarming.”
