Germany wants to accelerate its energy transition

The coalition in business in Germany for a few weeks with the participation of environmentalists has set itself ambitious objectives for the development of renewable energies. The minister in charge made an update on Tuesday, January 11, and explained how he intends to achieve these objectives.

The fight against global warming is forcing many countries to step up their efforts to reduce their harmful emissions. The new German government is no exception.

Even if the challenge is colossal, the German minister wants to believe it. Two legislative packages are due to be adopted this year to shorten deadlines, simplify procedures and develop incentives. Among these projects, 2% of the country’s surface area must be devoted to wind power and the installation of solar panels must be accelerated.

One ” gigantic ” challenge

At the end of the decade, Germany wants to have reduces its CO2 emissions two-thirds compared to the reference year 1990. ‘ What we are planning is mega-ambitious but achievable “, Estimates the new” super-minister “of Economy and Climate Robert Habeck who must take up a challenge which he himself describes as” gigantic “.

In thirty years, Germany developed renewable energies which today provide 42% of electricity production. But the country must, in eight years, by 2030, double this share. A bet that is impossible.

Especially since the ecologist Robert Habeck accumulates difficulties. The percentage of renewables fell for the first time in 25 years last year, emissions are on the rise again and 2022 and 2023 will not be good growth for the climate. Not to mention that the development of new technologies will increase Germany’s electricity needs as the last nuclear power station shuts down at the end of the year.
