Germany under 17 world champion to the detriment of France

The final of the Under-17 World Cup, Saturday December 2 in Surakarta in Indonesia, smiled on the very young Nationalmannschaft. Already European champions last June, the Germans won their first world title by once again dominating the French team in the final (2-2, 4 penalties to 3).

If the Germany A team is going through a complicated period, its future may be brighter. In any case, the German under-17s (U17) are promising. On June 2, 2023, they won in the Euro U17 final against the France team. Six months later to the day, facing the same opponents, it is again Germany who are jubilant with a victory in the final of the U17 World Cup.

And this time again, we had to go through the stress of a penalty shootout. At the Manahan Stadium in Surakarta, the Germans won their first world title, with forceps and after a stunning and stressful final in Indonesia.

The French had come back to life with panache

The first period was an ordeal for the young French people, messy and dominated. More incisive, the Germans dictated the game throughout the first act. And after a foul by Aymen Sadi on Bilal Yalcinkaya and a long intervention by the video assistance, a penalty was awarded to the Nationamannschaft. Paris Brunner took the opportunity to open the scoring (29th).

Returning after the break with better intentions, the Blues took a blow to the back of the head when Germany doubled the lead through their captain Noah Darvich (51st). With their backs to the wall and groggy, France immediately regained hope thanks to Saïmon Bouabré, who reduced the gap with a strong and precise shot (53rd).

Launched into a chase to snatch the equalizer, the little Blues gave everything and took advantage of the expulsion of Winners Osawe to throw their forces into the battle. In numerical superiority, the French returned to 2-2 thanks to Mathis Amougou, lethal on an offering from Tidiam Gomis (85th). They tried until the end to score a third goal, but Germany held on.

Penalty penalties, once again a fatal exercise for the Blues

Like six months ago, the two European selections had to be decided on penalties. An exercise in which France rarely shines. Despite two saves from French goalkeeper Paul Argney, the result was once again unfavorable for the Blues. Nhoa Sangui sent his shot onto the crossbar, then Bastien Meupiyou and Tidiam Gomis came up against the German goalkeeper, Konstantin Heide. And at the finish, it was Germany who emerged victorious from this session (2-2, 4 shots on goal to 3).

The 2006 generation of the Blues therefore does not succeed that of 1984, that of Anthony Le Tallec, Florent Sinama-Pongolle and others, crowned in 2001. It must be content with second place and tears of sadness, while Germany rises to the roof of the world. In the rankings the Germans succeed Brazil, crowned in 2019*.

The future now belongs to these young players who are still minors. All will return to their respective clubs and complete their training. We will undoubtedly find some of them soon at the highest level.

* the 2021 edition was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
