The reason is said to be that the Malian government refused to approve an overflight that was planned in connection with a UN peacekeeping mission.

Sweden decided last spring that the Swedish UN force in Mali should be taken home earlier than planned. The goal is for the entire force of around 220 soldiers to have left Mali by the end of June 2023.
