The Eventin oil tanker, which probably belongs to the so-called Russian shadow fleet, is being monitored by the German authorities off the island of Rügen.

Eventin suffered an engine failure last week, as a result of which the German authorities took the oil tanker in tow. The purpose was to tow the oil tanker away from the vicinity of Rügen in order to minimize environmental damage in the event of an oil spill.

Eventin has since apparently got his engine working again and is now able to maintain his course, the German NDR reports.

The oil tanker has asked the German maritime traffic authorities for permission to continue the journey. However, the oil tanker has not received this, as the German authorities still want to check whether the ship is operating safely.

Last weekend, the Jazz oil tanker, which probably belongs to the Russian shadow fleet, suffered a similar engine failure near Rügen. However, Jazz has already continued its journey, NDR reports.

The Kremlin accuses Western countries of restricting maritime traffic

On Thursday, a spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova accused the West of accusing Russia unnecessarily and claimed that the West had ulterior motives.

According to Zaharova, Russia has not sabotaged the underwater infrastructure, and Western countries have not managed to present evidence of this.

– The real purpose of all this is to limit Russia’s oil exports by any means… and to create the starting points for limiting international maritime traffic in the Baltic Sea, Zaharova accused.
