In Germany, several cities are now trying to save energy by turning off monuments at night and not heating municipal pools and showers.
– Considering the Ukraine war and the energy policy threats from Russia, it is important that we are as careful as possible with our energy, said the city’s environmental manager Bettina Jarasch on Wednesday.
Several other German cities will intensify efforts to reduce energy use. Among other things, they will reduce the use of air conditioning and encourage the population to travel by public transport to a greater extent.
Before the Ukraine war, Germany bought 55 percent of its natural gas from Russia. At the beginning of June, the percentage had fallen to 35 percent.
