German politician in court again for using Nazi slogan | News in brief

In May, Björn Höcke was fined 13,000 euros for knowingly using the slogan “All for Germany” in his 2021 election campaign.

In Germany, a politician of the far-right party AfD Björn Höcke is back in court for using illegal Nazi slogans.

In May, Höcke was fined 13,000 euros for knowingly using the slogan “All for Germany” in his 2021 election campaign.

The slogan in question, like other Nazi salutes and symbols, is illegal in Germany. The motto “All for Germany” was used by the paramilitary Sturmabteilung group, which played a central role Adolf Hitler in the rise to power.

During the May trial, Höcke, who is a former high school history teacher, claimed he was unaware of the slogan’s history. Prosecutors and judges, however, assessed that he was fully aware of the background of the slogan he used.

In the trial that started on Monday, Höcke is accused of using the same slogan at an AfD event in December 2023.

If Höcke is found guilty, he could be sentenced to up to three years in prison, according to German media. A verdict is expected as early as this week.
