German Netflix highlights 2023 from sci fi thrillers to trash grenades

In the past few days, Netflix has given us a first look at its 2023 lineup. The streaming service is particularly planning in the film sector as far ahead as ever. Already, in January, we know about December’s big blockbuster: Rebel Moon, the new science fiction epic by Zack Snyder.

Some promising original productions will also come from Germany in 2023. In the following article we have them most important German Netflix films and series compiled, which we expect to start in the next few months. Included is a sci-fi thriller and the local adaptation of a popular reality TV format.

  • Hello: In this sci-fi mystery series, Florian David Fitz slips into the role of family man Sven, who is confronted with the sudden disappearance of his wife. Now he has to solve a tricky puzzle. Not only is the survival of his own family at stake, but that of the entire world.
  • sleeping dogs: The six-part crime series is based on the Israeli original The Exchange Principle. In it, a police officer and a prosecutor get caught up in a conspiracy when they reopen an old murder case. Max Riemelt and Luise von Finckh play the leading roles.
  • Too Hot To Handle Germany: This year, the trashy reality dating show Too Hot To Handle is also getting a German spin-off. The concept remains the same: 10 singles meet on a beautiful beach. However, any sexual approach is prohibited and will reduce profits.
  • soering: The true crime documentary deals with the case of Jens Soering. The German citizen was sentenced to two life terms in prison for a double murder in the United States. In court he testified that he was innocent. In December 2019 he was released after 33 years in prison.

  • Faraway: Not too much is known about Faraway so far. Netflix describes the project as one “Movie by women for women”, which was filmed on the Croatian island of Solta. Naomi Krauss and Goran Bogdan play the leading roles. Faraway was staged by Gut vs. North Wind director Vanessa Jopp.
  • Paradise: What if years of life suddenly became currency? The science fiction thriller Paradise investigates exactly this question. At the heart of the story is a young couple who find themselves in dire straits. In order to free itself from its debts, it has to give up 40 years of life.
  • Facing North: The documentary Facing North revolves around the competition between the two extreme alpinists Ueli Steck and Dani Arnold. They want to climb the most dangerous north faces of the Alps as quickly as possible. The catch: Neither of the two resorts to safety equipment.
  • A German Netflix original has even started this year: the documentary Big Mack: Gangsters and Gold examines the history of Donald Stellwag. He was sentenced to nine years in prison for a crime he did not commit. After his release, he once again landed on the radar of the authorities.
