The MMORPG Tibia was created in Regensburg in 1995, but experienced its best business year 25 years later. Record numbers have been written since the outbreak of the pandemic – the streak of success continued in 2022, so that employees can look forward to a big bonus.

What is special about the MMORPG?

  • Tibia was created in 1995 when 4 students from the university in Regensburg got together and invented what is now known as an MMORPG. At that time it was new territory, there was no template, you just knew that a team from the USA was probably planning something like that with “Ultima Online”.
  • One of the special features of the MMORPG is that the students founded a company in Regensburg, CipSoft. To this day they are the managing directors of the company, which now consists of almost 100 people.
  • Today, Tibia is mainly played in South America and Poland and will continue to generate exciting stories in 2023, which we report on MeinMMO.

    • How is business? Business has been excellent since 2020. The lockdown certainly played a part. But in 2022, when measures generally eased, revenues remained strong.

    CipSoft’s record results in recent years were no exception, but are part of a sustained positive development.

    The statistics confirm this sustainable positive development, with a boom in the Corona year 2020:

    What makes Tibia so much money? Tibia is a freemium game. One can play it for free or get a premium account which brings benefits. There is also the premium currency “Tibia Coins.”

    It is even possible in Tibia to sell your character through a bazaar. CipSoft then takes a share of the transaction amount.

    Company pays 25% of profits to employees

    How do employees benefit from this?? This is another special feature of the company from Regensburg. As managing director Stephan Vogel explains, the company distributes a quarter of the company’s profits to its employees every year in the form of a bonus.

    This year, the bonuses correspond to more than 9 additional monthly salaries.

    CipSoft now has almost 100 employees.
