The German Parliament today votes on a massive investment package that the country plans to build its armed forces and infrastructure into a new faith.
Probably German’s next Chancellor of Chancellor of Christian Democrats Friedrich Merz says Germany is taking a “step towards the European defense community.”
Reported including Süddeutsche Zeitung.
The German Parliament, Bundestag, today votes on a large legal package. It includes changes to the “debt brake” regulating the constitutional debt so that Germany could take larger debt for defense expenditure. The legislative package also includes an investment package of EUR 500 billion in infrastructure and investment in the green transition.
The transparency of the legislative package is not quite certain: although Merz received the Social Democrats, the Christian Democrats and the Greens behind the law, some individual MPs are not sure of their position.
Approval of the legal package requires a two -thirds majority in Parliament. In addition, the legal package requires the approval of Bundesrat, a state of states.
Election winner Merz introduced the vote with a flamboyant speech.
Merz: Due to Trump, you have to act quickly
“We have to rebuild our defense readiness,” Merz said.
According to Merz, a new defense should be built with self -directed weapon systems, independent European satellite surveillance, armed airplanes and other “many modern defense systems”.
According to Merz, everything needed must be obtained from European companies “whenever possible”.
According to Merz, the leg of the legal package will be “the first significant step towards the new European defense community”. According to Merz, this includes, in addition to EU countries, other allies in the area, such as Britain and Norway.
According to Merz have to act quickly because of the US President Donald Trump Foreign policy and Russia have “weakened” the security situation in recent weeks.
