German soccer player Andreas Brehme has died at the age of 63, reports Saksalaislehti Bild. Brehme died of cardiac arrest in the night between Monday and Tuesday. Thing has been confirmed by his long-term partner Susanne Schafer.
Brehme was one of the key players of the German national team for a long time. He is especially remembered for the 1990 World Cup tournament in Rome, when he decided the world championship for West Germany with his penalty kick goal against Argentina.
In total, Breme played 86 national team matches in his career and scored eight goals in them. In addition to the championship, he achieved World Championship silver in 1986 and European Championship silver in 1992.
In his professional career, Brehme represented, among others, Kaiserslautern, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Real Zaragoza. After his playing career, Brehme coached until 2005.
