The Rheinmetall company intends to start three more arms factories in Ukraine in the near future.
German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall has started its first factory in Ukraine, says for example Kyiv Post newspaper.
The factory, located in a top-secret location, manufactures very modern Lynx Kf41 type infantry fighting vehicles. According to Rheinmetall’s announcement, the goal is to manufacture about ten Lynxes this year.
The Kf41 model is Rheinmetall’s larger Lynx model. Its weight is about 50 tons. The wagon is armed with a 35-millimeter high-speed cannon and anti-tank missiles, says for example Army Recognition publication.
Its armor consisting of metal and ceramic layers effectively protects the crew from single projectiles and explosives weighing up to ten kilograms. The carriage has a crew of two, and eight soldiers can be accommodated in the carriage. Lynx is also suitable for transporting the wounded, for example.
Three more factories
The now started factory also maintains and repairs Ukrainian battle tanks and other armored vehicles. Rheinmetall trains staff at the facility.
Rheinmetall is the majority owner of the joint venture. Ukrainian Ukroboronprom owns 49 percent of it. The company was born quickly. Rheinmetall and the state of Ukraine signed an agreement on the matter in the spring.
The German company has more plans for Ukrainian arms production. Due to the ongoing war, there is an endless demand for weapons and other equipment.
CEO of Rheinmetall Armin Papperger said at the opening of the factory on October 26 that the company’s gunpowder factory will soon be ready to open in Ukraine.
In addition, Rheinmetall is opening facilities in Ukraine that manufacture artillery ammunition and anti-aircraft missiles.
Russia threatens the factory with a military strike. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov according to the factory is a legal target.
