Emergency doctor and medical director of Doctissimo, Gérald Kierzek publishes a new book entitled: “Your health in the world after”. The objective is to provide practical advice on how to better take control of your health and better prepare for the future.

Your health in the world after

Doctissimo: Why did you choose to write this book in the form of an alphabet?

Gerald Kierzek: After more than two years of pandemic, we are all a little fed up and we want to move on. I wanted through this book to use the words of the Covid crisis, words that have been used by everyone, experts or not, but not only. The objective is also to better prepare for your health, but also to better understand the issues behind this health crisis and to come back to what we have not talked about enough: the hospital crisis and the crisis of prevention.

Gerald Kierzek: I would say that by communicating better around the complex words of the field of health, people better understand the medical language. For example, they understand that the immune system is more complex than a simple antibody test. In terms of advice, I would say that the general public should know that 80% of cardiovascular disease is preventable by eating better and moving more. And that our immune system is boosted by good sleep and good nutrition.

For the future, we must above all not be fatalistic in the face of Covid, but rather prepare for the sequel, for another wave, another variant or another virus. That’s the important thing. I am optimistic and active, rather than pessimistic and passive, which has been the case too often in the measures taken to manage this crisis.

What lessons can we learn from this health crisis?

Gerald Kierzek: For a long time, we wanted to classify doctors according to their words. Personally, I am neither “reassuring” nor “alarmist”. I am a doctor pro health, pro vaccination and especially pro prevention. It is on this last point that I want to insist in my book. We have experienced a crisis of bad aging, junk food and insufficient prevention. It is quite the opposite that I want for the future.
