George RR Martin thinks Game of Thrones is better than

Game of Thrones has repeatedly unsettled, captivated and fascinated its fans with surprising character deaths. According to template creator George RR Martin makes the franchise even better than Star Wars. He justifies it with an infamous scene from the fantasy series. And 20 billion meaningless deaths.

Game of Thrones Creator Shoots Star Wars With 20 Billion Dead

Speaking to The Independent, he said of a famous Star Wars scene:

Star Wars kills more characters than me! In the very first movie the whole planet Alderaan with 20 billion people will be blown up. But that doesn’t matter at all. It’s just a statistic. One does not feel these deaths.

When a character dies, he wants the reader to think about their lives and the lives of their loved ones without them. He wants the reader to feel it. Martin explains this using the notorious Red Wedding. At This Event (Season 3 of the Series/ Part 2 of the Book Series) several beloved main characters die at once.

People felt that. It’s a cruel chapter that makes people sad and angry. I think that’s good. After all, we are talking about death here!

Whether the death of series characters necessarily has to be emotionally traumatizing remains to be seen. How Star Wars and Game of Thrones will fight each other in the future, fans may be able to see from current series. Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi launched on Disney+ on May 25, 2022. House of the Dragon is coming August 22, 2022 to Sky.
