In August, Kamala Harris is expected to be chosen as the Democratic presidential candidate.
There are three advantages that can help her beat Donald Drump in the election, says Ann Linde, social democrat and former foreign minister, in Nyhetsmorgon.
– In an incredibly short time, Kamala Harris has regained energy in the groups that the Democrats must reach.
The presidential election campaign took a major turn when Biden dropped out as a presidential candidate a week ago. And many Democrats heaved “a collective sigh of relief,” says Ann Linde.
– I think it was a stroke of genius.
Kamala Harris was quickly supported by several prominent Democrats and broke a record in the United States when her presidential election campaign collected the equivalent of 2 billion kroner.
– It was the only thing they could do to get new energy in the election debate. After Biden’s disastrous debate, the air went out of the election campaign. The Democrats need to mobilize different groups, if they succeed in that they have a chance to succeed. In an incredibly short time, Kamala Harris has regained energy in the groups that the Democrats must reach.
The questions that can give her the win
Kamala Harris received poor popularity figures after she took office as vice president and has found it difficult to get space in the media. But she has three strengths that can give her the win, according to Ann Linde. The first is the abortion issue.
– It’s Harris’ home ground, she has been working on the issue for as long as possible.
The second issue is the Middle East and specifically the war between Israel and Hamas.
– She does not turn away from Israel, but she will not be silent regarding the massive civilian casualties that have occurred and the way in which Israel wages war.
– There they have also gained new hope for a new American policy.
Ann Linde believes Harris’s experience and background as chief prosecutor is also a big advantage in the election campaign.
– She had several big cases against large corporations when she was chief prosecutor in California, to the benefit of ordinary people. She has some such advantages. If you use them right, and the Democrats do, she can do what is most important: “Energize the base”, as they say in the US.
