Large cities, such as Yaoundé, Douala, Bafoussam, or even Bamenda and Buea, in the English-speaking part, were affected. Faced with a cut of this magnitude, people panicked before being reassured by a press release from the Cameroonian Ministry of Water and Energy.

Several cities in Cameroon were plunged into darkness at the same time, a sufficiently rare fact which aroused the curiosity of the populations. In discussions on social networks, some people feared security concerns.
Sources close to the regime told us that this cut scared some authorities, due to the political situation prevailing in Cameroon, particularly with rumors surrounding the president’s health. It was a press release from the Ministry of Energy and Water which provided the beginnings of an explanation.

According to him, an incident on the southern interconnected network, which covers six of the country’s ten regions, led to a disruption in the supply of electricity. The violent lightning strike of a high-voltage line led to a “domino effect”, according to the first elements noted by Sonatrel, the electricity transmission company. Its technical teams, who went into the field, managed to restore some regions late at night.
Eneo, the electricity distribution company, has invited people not to plug in any electronic devices less than a quarter of an hour after the electricity returns.
