Voting has started for the general elections in Greece.
Voters will be able to vote from 07:00 in the morning until 19:00 in the evening.
Voters going to the polls will choose between 27 political parties, 8 alliances and 1 independent candidate.
According to the electoral system in Greece, voters do not only choose parties and alliances, but also choose between the parliamentary candidates of the parties.
With the closing of the ballot boxes, exit polls will also be published.
The Greek Ministry of Interior is expected to begin announcing the first unofficial results as of 20.30.
There are approximately 9 million 800 thousand registered voters in the country.
After lowering the voting age from 18 to 17 with the decision in 2016, 17-year-old voters can vote for the first time in this year’s general elections.
While the number of 17-year-old voters who can vote for the first time is recorded as 112 thousand 97, the number of voters between the ages of 17 and 21 is over 438 thousand.
If a government cannot be formed with the results of the ballot box today, voters will have to go to the polls a second time.
However, at the second poll, the party with the most votes will have an extra 20 seats in parliament.
