Of the eight parliamentary parties, six agreed to send the disputed proposal to a vote in the chamber. Only KD’s and SD’s members are against.
But the debate is not over yet. There are divided opinions, among other things, within the Social Democrats regarding the law, where the women’s union led by Annika Strandhäll is against it.
The criticism is based, among other things, on the fact that the number of diagnoses of gender dysphoria has increased avalanche-like in the last ten years, and that it is not completely clear what this is due to.
The new bill only applies to legal gender. The age limit must be lowered from 18 to 16 years (with the guardian’s approval). A gender dysphoria diagnosis should not be necessary either, but a healthcare contact beforehand should be sufficient.
The M member has been positive
M member Johan Hultberg has previously expressed that he believes the law will pass with support from the opposition.
– This has been a very researched and debated question. Now it is important that we finish with this change. Today you have to wait five to seven years, it will be suffering for this group. Requirements must be set, but it must be more simplified than it is today, he said at the end of March to TV4 Nyheterna.
SD and KD have previously tried to postpone the decision.
