Gazprom must pay Uniper EUR 13 billion in compensation | News in brief

The German energy company Uniper has won the legal battle against the Russian company Gazprom.

The Stockholm court gave Uniper permission to terminate the gas contract with Gazprom and seek compensation of 13 billion euros from Gazprom, because Gazprom has not delivered the gas it promised, says German newspaper Handelsblatt.

However, it is unlikely that Gazprom will pay compensation in full.

The Finnish company Fortum sold its ownership of Uniper at a loss of almost six billion euros to the German state in 2022.
