“Despite the tragedy that unfolded under our watch, Israeli authorities have informed the UN that they will no longer approve UNRWA food convoys to the north,” said Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini.
In his statement yesterday, Commissioner General Philippe Lazzarini stated that Israeli officials will no longer allow UNRWA to send aid to Gaza and said, “Life-saving aid is being prevented from being delivered to the north of Gaza, which is the main lifeline of Palestinian Refugees. Despite the tragedy unfolding under our watch, Israeli officials have informed the UN that they will no longer approve any aid. “Preventing UNRWA from fulfilling its duties in Gaza will accelerate the slide towards famine and cause many more to die from hunger, thirst and lack of shelter,” he said.
“HUNGER LEVEL IS SERIOUS”
WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, in his message shared after the statement, said, “Blocking UNRWA’s food distribution is actually preventing the survival of starving people. This decision must be reversed immediately. The hunger level is serious. “All efforts to deliver food should not only be permitted, but food deliveries should be expedited immediately,” he said.
